What is Agentic AI and how Does it Differ From GenAI?
Aside from events in the US, the one subject that’s dominating the chat here at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, is agentic AI. It’s defined as ‘autonomous systems that sense and act upon their environment to achieve goals’. Rather than GenAI models, they focus on making decisions rather than creating content.
Unlike ChatGPT, which offers immediate responses to queries from the web, agentic AI considers its response from multiple platforms.
According to a white paper on the subject released by the WEF: ‘the application of AI agents can play a crucial role in addressing the shortfall of skills in various industries, filling the gaps in areas where human expertise is lacking or in high demand’. *
For example, Salesforce is already using agents to automate tasks, analyse data and personalise customer interactions.
PwC says: ‘By integrating agentic AI, businesses can offer personalised and responsive customer experiences. AI-driven chatbots and virtual assistants can provide instant support, answer queries, and even recommend products based on customer preferences and dynamic interactions’.
AI is already changing the way we search on the internet, with Google offering answers to search questions as well as the usual list of links.
Next up is the roll-out of multi-agent AI models which consist of multiple decision-making agents. They interact in a shared environment to analyse and achieve common or conflicting goals.
As ever with AI, there are risks. The WEF warns: ‘the autonomous nature of AI agents raises ethical questions about their decision-making capabilities in critical situations’.
WEF recommends: ‘Prioritizing human rights, privacy and accountability are essential measures to ensure that AI agents make decisions that are aligned with human and societal values’.
As we all can see, the roll-out of AI is moving at lightening speed. If you would like a demo of TheNewsMarket’s newly developed AI Research Assistant, then get in touch.
